Why would I want Paint Correction?
Over time paint gets oxidized, scratched, and damaged. This happens for many reasons. The sun damages paint over time, daily driving, and even using an automated car wash can cause paint defects.
What is Paint Correction?
Paint correction is the process of fixing these scratches, swirls and marks in the paint.
How is this done?
For a 2-stage correction, this is done by applying a cutting compound, while this can be done by hand it is far more effective to use a machine buffing tool. Slow overlapping passes are made over the paint in 2 directions. Once the process has been completed over the entire car a finishing polish is used. Again this can be applied by hand but is often applied with the aid of a buffing machine. Once completed the process can be repeated if desired.
For a 1-stage correction, polish is applied to the paint with the aid of a machine buffing tool. This will remove light marring and scuffing
FAQ
Can all paint be corrected in this manner?
Not always. Paint corrections are done in the clear topcoat. Car paint is made up of multiple layers. If a scratch is on the topcoat it is more likely that this can be removed. However, corrections in the above manner reduce the topcoat by tiny amounts. Therefore if your topcoat is too tiny, then this cannot be corrected. The topcoat protects the under layers of paint and therefore should not be fully removed. If you can run a fingernail over the damage and feel it, it is probably too deep to fix in this method. It would need to be repainted in this case.
How long does paint correction take?
Paint correction depends on many factors, including the type of car, paint, and extent of the damage. It can take 2 hours or over 20 hours but on average it takes 3-6 hours
